Rural Women Rise: Stories of Resilience and Leadership in Ethiopia

From Delays to Dispatch — A Lesson in Execution

In April 2024, we finalized a bulk cumin order from a mid-sized buyer in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Quantity: 20 FT container, 528 bags, 25 kg each. The buyer’s condition was simple — dispatch within 6 days from confirmation, or the deal would move to another supplier.

On Day 1, we sourced 60% from our regular APMC route and 40% from direct farmers near Halvad. But midway, we hit a major snag: the packaging rolls we usually sourced were out of stock, and the lab delayed issuing the purity report by 48 hours.

Instead of losing time, we used our backup vendor for packaging (slightly higher cost, but timely) and requested the lab to split the report batch-wise. Meanwhile, we locked the truck and container booking on Day 4 — before loading was complete.

On Day 6, the container was sealed and left from our plant, with final documentation emailed to the buyer within 2 hours of dispatch.

🚚 Real Results:

  • ✅ Container dispatched within buyer’s 6-day window

  • ✅ Lab report + packaging arranged despite supply delays

  • ✅ Buyer confirmed 2 more orders for June and August

💬 What We Learned:

  • It wasn’t a smooth ride — but it proved that even small teams can deliver like pros with the right backup, communication, and speed.
